The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) protects, conserves and restores land, water and wildlife for the benefit of the region's diverse plants, animals and ecosystems.

Through science-based strategies, collaboration, leadership and recognition of the relationship between humankind and nature, WPC achieves tangible conservation outcomes for present and future generations.

Conservation is in our nature

Pennsylvania’s first conservancy, WPC has protected nearly 225,000 acres of natural lands in Pennsylvania since it was established in 1932.

WPC has restored watersheds around the state and saved numerous natural habitats to preserve Pennsylvania’s rich diversity of life.  Of the total land protected by land trust organizations in Pennsylvania, nearly 50% has been conserved by WPC.

Sharing a national treasure with the world

Outside Pennsylvania, WPC is possibly best known for its preservation of Fallingwater®, the world-renowned house designed in 1935 by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright for Pittsburgh department store owner Edgar J. Kaufmann and his family.

Situated in Mill Run, Pennsylvania, Fallingwater was entrusted to WPC in 1963 by Edgar Kaufmann jr. Today, WPC continues its award-winning preservation efforts at Fallingwater and takes pride in the wide variety of educational programs available to the more than 135,000 people who visit the house every year.

In keeping with Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision of the house on the water as the epitome of modern living in harmony with nature, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy strives to carry on the legacy of Fallingwater as the Kaufmann family and the architect himself would have intended.

A network of dedicated volunteers

Each year, WPC partners with more than 5,000 volunteers and dozens of community organizations and businesses to plant and maintain more than 140 gardens and greening projects in 19 Western Pennsylvania counties. Inch by inch, yard by yard and acre by acre, our volunteers are helping to make Pennsylvania a more beautiful place to live and to visit.
