Summer Members’ Hike at Jennings Environmental Education Center
Join WPC naturalists for a leisurely walk through this rare eastern prairie ecosystem. The blazing star (Liatris spicata) – the beautiful wildflower that turns the prairie purple in late July and early August – will be in full bloom.
In 1952 WPC acquired a natural area in Butler County to create the Jennings Nature Reserve. Additional land was acquired in 1962 and 1969 to bring the total to 310 acres. Now known as Jennings Environmental Education Center, this area is owned by the Bureau of State Parks and is named for the famous botanist Dr. Otto Emery Jennings.
